Water Polo is a team sport that mixes the best aspects of soccer, basketball, and hockey.  Water polo is rapidly gaining popularity at all levels including youth, high school, and college.   The sport combines speed and strength as well as teamwork and a high level of fitness.  Koji has been playing water polo with SwimRVA for 2 years and has experienced many benefits:

“On October 25th SwimRVA Water Polo kicked off our third season with a scrimmage against a new team out of Hampton Roads. What a fun game it was! Even though it seemed the opponent had older and bigger players, it didn’t scare our boys as they are used to playing with kids of all ages.

Koji wanted to continue to swim but he was not interested in swim teams and he didn’t know what he wanted to do. That is when we found out about this new Water Polo program! Since then he has been going to practice 3-4 times a week year around and cannot get enough of it. Koji made friends with teammates of all ages from elementary, middle, and high school as they all practice together. My son was not the fastest swimmer when he started but he developed both speed and endurance, and now he can tread water with his hands up in 7’7” deep water for who knows how long!? Not only did his Water Polo skills improve but we noticed he can now throw a football a lot further when he plays backyard football due to the conditioning and practice he gets in Water Polo with his throwing arm.

At first we were unfamiliar with Water Polo, but I have to admit that I am glad my son Koji joined the Water Polo team and not a swim team. The Water Polo games are a lot more fun to watch and cheer for than swim meets, and it has been a pleasure watching him develop individual skills while working as a team, not as an individual participant. With a state-of-the-art facility, and excellent instruction from Coach Miras and Coach Alex, Koji and his teammates have grown to love this sport.”

If you are interested in water polo, SwimRVA’s team is it!  The coaches focus on teamwork and sportsmanship as well as making sure the players receive as much out of the sport as possible.  Take it from Kobi’s mom, the bonds created with teammates and coaches are measurable!  Players develop an understanding and passion for water polo while building healthy physical fitness habits they can keep with them for a lifetime!
